inhabitants of Egypt, the Isrealites had to take a lamb (a lamb each,
for every house), they had to kill it and they also struck the blood
on their door posts[Exodus12:3-7].
They were to make sure the lamb to be offered was without
blemish[without deformity or disfigurement] [Exodus12:5].
InThe Isrealites, NOW LIBERATED FROM SLAVERY,had to make sure a bullock
and a goat had to be killed and their blood sprinkled (each time they
committed sin) [Lev.16:14&15].
The Priest also needed to lay his hands on the SCAPEGOAT, confessing
the sins of everyone on it, thereby making the SCAPEGOAT, BEAR THE
SINS OF EVERYONE. [Lev.16:21].
This they did, in order to APPEASE(PROPITIATE) and pacify God Almighty
and also to ATONE(make amends and corrections) for their shortcomings.
THE SIGNIFICANCE
Understand that "...whatsoever things were written aforetime(in the
Old testament) were written for our learning...". [Rom.15:4].
Knowing also that, in this dispensation "...it is not possible, that
the blood of bulls and of goats would take away sins" [Heb.10:4].
Therefore the implication of the above narrative is that:
- Jesus, the LAMB OF GOD that takes away the sins of the world (not
just the sins of a nation/household) (John1:29), will make us eligible
to ESCAPE the wrath to come (i.e, the damnation and punishment in
hell) , by the efficacy of His blood
"...being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath
through Him". (Rom.5:8).
- Jesus is the Lamb of God without blemish, stain or disfigurement (He
is the only one born into this world without sin, since He was not a
descendant of Adam, as we are, as a result of His virgin birth).
"....but with the precious blood of Jesus as of A LAMB WITHOUT BLEMISH
AND WITHOUT SPOT". [1 Peter1:19].
- Our sins are forgiven through the blood of Jesus. (Col.1:14).
- Jesus is our substitute and SIN BEARER
"...Christ was once offered TO BEAR THE SINS OF MANY...".[Heb.9:28].
-Christ death APPEASED and PACIFIED God, MAKING ATONEMENT for our
sins(making amends and correcting our errors) and bringing about
RECONCILIATION BETWEEN GOD AND MAN.
"Whom God hath set forth to be a PROPITIATION(AN APPEASEMENT) through
faith in His blood. [Rom.3:14].
"...we are RECONCILED to God by the death of His Son. [Rom.5:10].
"...but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we
have recieved the ATONEMENT (REDRESS, REMEDY, REPAIR AND
RECTIFICATION). [Rom.5:11].
Dear friend why linger in sin?, Won't you make this oppurtunity
yours?, Don't forget that there is a wrath to come (the damnation and
terror of hell).
You need to ESCAPE dear friend, by admitting, confessing and
repenting of your sins, asking God for forgiveness (penitently and
sincerely in heartfelt prayers) and believe in your heart that Jesus
died, thereby shedding His blood for the remission of your sins.
[Rom10:9-10].
Having done that, you need to live a holy life, dedicating yourself
unto Lord, studying the bible and fellowshipping with heaven minded
believers.
Once again not forgetting "...HOLINESS WITHOUT WHICH NO MAN SHALL SEE
THE LORD". [Rom.12:14].
