BIBLICAL TERMS AND MEANING

CONSECRATION: This is the act of separating something or someone from profanity and all ungodliness and dedicating them for God's use (Num.3:3, 2Cor.6:17).

REPENTANCE: A change in mind or behabviour. To turn away from sin unto righteousness (matt3:2, Acts3:19).

JUSTIFICATION: To be declared righteous before God. It is the act of imputing or assigning righteousness unto someone as a result of their faith in Christ's redemptive work (Rom.3:30).

  SALVATION (to be 'saved)/ REDEMPTION(to be redeemed):
To be delivered from or to escape the damnation of hell. The deliverance from sin and its consequence (hell) which come through faith in Christ atoning work. (Heb.2:3)

RIGHTEOUSNESS:To be good, decent, pure and saintly. It goes beyond being morally upright (self-righteousness). It also goes beyond being law-abiding (The righteousness of the law ) (Rom.2:26). Our righteous acts becomes acceptable after identifying with Christ's redemptive work (Rom.3:22-26).
SANCTIFICATION: To sanctify is to make holy, to purify or to make free from sin.(Eph.5:25&26)

GENTILE: A non-Jew. The rest of mankind who are not Jews.

DISCIPLE/CHRISTIAN: A committed follower of Christ.

GRACE: An unmerited favour. The gift of Jesus to mankind is a demonstration of God's grace (or favour). It is also a quickening power from God which helps us do the extra-ordinary.

 BORN AGAIN: A new birth (a regeneration, rejuvenation or renewal), which takes place after we've confessed our sins and given our lives to Christ. A former sinner becomes a NEW CREATURE as a result of the spiritual 'REBIRTH' which takes place after confession of sins and faith in Christ.

 REPROBATE: A condemned and morally abandoned person, someone who is given to sin. An apostate, who is lost to virtue or grace and abandoned to wickedness and eternal destruction.

DOCTRINE: A principle, belief or teaching.

ANTICHRIST: An adversary, opposer and enemy of Christ, the church, a false teacher and deciever. The beast which will be revealed during the Great Tribulation, who would decieve people through miracles and also give them marks on their foreheads and right-hands.

THE LAW: The written commandments is contained in the first five books of the Old Testament (The Pentateuch). This written Laws are ceremonial (consist of sacrificial procedures and ceremonies or precautions to ensure purity), moralistic (having the principle of right and wrong behaviour) and judicial (relating to administration of justice. Laws which helps to ensure good governance).

 THE PROPHETS: A division of the Old Testament comprising the books of Joshua, Judges, Samuel, Kings, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and the Twelve minor prophets (The book of Hosea- Malachi).

THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT: Divine gifts bestowed on a faithful believer in order help build up the body of Christ. The gifts of apostleship, wisdom, knowledge, faith, discernment, tongues, interpretation of tongues, prophecy, teaching, miracle, healing, help and administration(1 cor.12:8). We can ask for any of these gifts in prayer to be effective in ministry (1 cor.12:31).7 THE

FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT: This is a nine-in-one fruit (since we can't have one without having the other) we recieve and bear after salvation. They are love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperancd (Gal. 5:22-23).

ETERNAL LIFE: An everlasting and a never-ending life that an individual recieves after giving his life to Christ. As a result of eternal life in a believer, he will not perish in hell after death (John3:16, 1 John5:11).

 THE FLESH: The human body, the human nature, sensuality or carnality (Rom.8:8).

DEAD TO SIN: Crippled, suppressed, defeated, overpowered, crushed and hardened by sin (Eph. 2:5).

DEAD TO SIN: Dispassionate and unemotional about sin. Not keen, excited and passionate about sin. (Rom. 6:2, 1Peter2:24).

 WATCH: To be on guard, to be careful, to be on the look out, to be cautious and vigilant (1Peter4:7).

THE WORD (with a capital 'W') : Jesus Christ, the second Person in the Godhead (Trinity) (John1:1).

THE WORLD: The ungodly in the society or ungodly societal customs and practice (1John2:15&16, 1John1:13&14).

THE GOSPEL: A teaching or message concerning the coming Jesus Christ (a Saviour) who came to die for the sin of humanity in order to brimg salvation. A warnimg message urging sinners to repent because God's kingdom is at hand (mark1:14&15).

PREDESTINATE: Predecided or Predetermined. It is God's plan and will for a long time that mankind should be saved. It is not His will from the beginning that any should perish in hell (Eph.1:4&5, 2Peter3:9). God has predetermined that everyone should be saved, but the choice is ours.

ATONEMENT: The act of making amends for sins committed and restoring fellowship with God through a sacrifice which is without blemish or sin. Jesus is the Lamb of God which takes away the sin of the world. His blood makes atonement for our sins when we confess them (Lev.4:20-21, 1Peter1:18)
