STEPS TO SALVATION
1. ADMIT(agree) that you are a sinner. "For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me."(Psalm51:3).
2. REPENT(express sincere regret or remorse for your sins) and promise God that you will never go back to them again. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord"(Acts3:19).
3. CONFESS your sins(mentioning them by name) and ask God for mercy, pardon and forgiveness. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."(1John1:9). "...and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation"(Romans10:9).
4.BELIEVE in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins and rose in order to remit your sins. "...and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved"(Romans10:9), "...believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved..."(Acts16:31).
5.INVITE Jesus into your heart to be the Lord of your life
Do all these in a heartfelt prayer and God will be waiting with His arms open wide to recieve you.
WHAT NEXT AFTER SALVATION?
After salvation, you need to set yourself apart unto God.
God, not only calls us unto salvation(Rev3:20, 2chr7:14,matt11:28). He also calls us to separation after salvation:
"And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols... wherefore come out from among them and be ye separate(set apart), saith the Lord and TOUCH NOT the unclean thing and I will recieve you'(2cor6:16-17). 1thessalonians5:22 reads: "Abstain from all APPEARANCE of evil".
After the prayer of salvation, you need to set yourself apart unto God by:
1. Separating yourself from ungodly friends, who can lead you to sin through their speech and lifestyle.
2.Staying away from any source of temptation. E.g pornographic facebook pages(unlike them), do away with any material that can lure into sin(movies, books, dirty contents from dirty websites, if possible stay away from the internet for some time).
3.Avoiding places that can shipwreck your christianity(e.g club houses, ugodly ceremony venues, houses of ungodly friends).
4. Studying your bible regularly, starting especially from those portions of the scriptures that centers on the teachings of Christ and how the early disciples lived their lives.(matthew-revelation), so that you would have the right words to tell the devil, whenever he tempts you.
Also read christian books, massages, 'LIKE' more christian facebook pages(if you are on facebook) and add christian websites to your bookmark and visit them regularly.
5. "1 cor6:19", is a powerful verse of the scripture, that can help you overcome temptation. Whenever the temptation or the thought sin comes into your mind, say this word continously until those thought fizzle out of your mind. 'My body(my heart inclusive) is the temple of the Holy Ghost and not the temple of sin, therefore, every sinful thought in my heart, LEAVE!!!'.
6. Making friends with christians(genuine ones) that are spiritually deeper than you, study the word of God regularly with them and ask them questions in order to grow.
7. Making sure you a member of a church that teaches more on salvation, righteousness, holiness and purity.
8. Asking God in constant and persistent prayers to sanctify you(make you holy and give you the strength to live a holy life).
Christ made the prayer of sanctification on behalf his disciples in John17:17. Continue making this request until you no longer struggle to overcome sin(DO THIS PRAYER AS SOMEONE, WHO IS IN DIRE NEED OF SOMETHING).
If you take the above-highlighted steps continously, without relenting, you are simply getting closer to God and farther from the devil(and sin as well) because you are surrounding yourself with godly activities and at the same time, not making room for the devil to come in.
Having known this, you need to understand what accompanies repentance, by reading the post on REENTANCE; NOT ISOLATED on this same blog site.
